A commercial judge at FRILO

Official appointment of Markus Gallenberger

The FRILO Software GmbH has an honorary commercial judge in its ranks since mid-September. Our managing director Markus Gallenberger has been officially appointed, on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria, to work at the Regional Court of Landshut.

The appointment as honorary commercial judge is a great honor for our managing director Markus Gallenberger. Beside his core activity at FRILO he will be involved in a voluntary capacity and act as a commercial judge in the future. For those who are now wondering what a commercial judge is and what duties he has, we have summarized the most important questions and answers:

What is a commercial judge?

Commercial judges work as honorary judges and support the Chamber of Commercial Matters in making legal decisions. The aim of this activity is to incorporate the commercial knowledge into the decisions of the court. Therefore, this role requires an adequate knowledge of commercial expertise.

Who can be appointed as a commercial judge?

For the appointment as a commercial judge one must be officially proposed by the chambers of industry and commerce. As a potential candidate, you should meet various criteria. This includes, for example, completing the age of 30, the German citizenship, as well as a registration as a businessman, e.g. as a board member or a managing director. An honorary commercial judge, just like a professional judge, takes an oath prescribed in the German Judicial Act before his first service.

What are the duties of a volunteer commercial judge?

Commercial judges participate in decision-making processes on commercial matters. This could be about corporate and company law disputes, stock market issues or competition-related cases.

Mr. Gallenberger is looking forward to the upcoming challenges and comments: "This is a great opportunity to give something back to our society and to work for a fair and neutral competition in the market."
